Buenos Aires, Argentina – Estudio O'Farrell
Miguel Tesón was appointed as managing partner of Estudio O'Farrell. Miguel was incorporated into Estudio O'Farrell in 1990 and is the partner in charge of the Department of Taxation Law. Since 2005, Miguel has been a Professor of Tax Law Master's Catholic University of Argentina for the provincial and municipal taxes.  He is also a professor of a postgraduate course in taxation for  Professional Council in Economic Sciences. He frequently publishes articles and essays on tax matters in specialized journals, and has also co-authored the book Tax Procedure, Ed.

Buffalo, New York, USA - Watson, Bennett, Colligan & Schechter, LLP
Kristin Langdon Arcuri has been elected fellow of the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers (AAML). Kristin joins an elite group comprised of only a dozen other fellows in Western New York. Membership into this premier group requires extensive testing, peer review, evaluations by judges and recognition as a first-rate matrimonial lawyer. She has limited her practice to the area of matrimonial and family law for over 17 years. Kristin is the chair of the Matrimonial Law Department at Watson Bennett. She is also a leader in the paradigm changing new matrimonial dissolution process though negotiation called the Collaborative Law process.

The Trucking and Transportation Defense Practice Group of Watson Bennett launched The New York Trucking Defense mobile application for Android Smartphone and iPhone users. This application is designed to assist the user with any truck accidents in New York state. Features include location of the truck, testing facilities and local police. Another key feature is the “Contact Counsel” that connects directly to two of the practice group lawyers with their office and mobile numbers. Edmonton, Alberta, Canada - Emery Jamieson LLP
Emery Jamieson LLP is proud to be one of the founding law firms and participants in the Civil Claims Duty Counsel Project. This project was initiated by Pro Bono Law Alberta. The Civil Claims Duty Counsel (CCDC) project was established in Calgary in October 2011 and in Edmonton in January 2012 to provide legal assistance to Albertans engaged in proceedings before the Provincial Court who would benefit from legal counsel. The CCDC project engages volunteer lawyers and law students in the provision of summary legal advice, procedural information, help with trials, motions and other appearances and help completing forms.

Houston, Texas, USA – Burleson LLP
Burleson LLP was featured in The National Law Journal in an article published on June 11 titled “All the Right Moves.” The story, which provided insight on Burleson’s rapid growth, underscores the firm’s unique approach to delivering the widest range of legal services to companies in the oil and gas industry. The article also prominently features founder and LAW contact, Rick Burleson, describing the choice he made between joining the Kansas City Chiefs or going to law school.  Rick also discussed his strategy of using their oil and gas title work with clients to then expand to transactions and litigation. The article described their expansion strategy and the value of an immersion program for training select associates to assist firm growth.

Ms. Micheline Dessureault was appointed as director of the International Business Law Department of the firm. Having developed a solid expertise of over 25 years in international strategic counselling, Ms. Dessureault represents Canadian businesses looking to expand at the international level as well as foreign organizations who want to develop their operations in Canada. She acts regularly as a speaker invited by various governmental or private organizations as well as exporting associations. She is also frequently published in magazines and newsletters specialized in international trade.

Éric Beauchesne was appointed president of Joli-Coeur Lacasse. Very involved in the community, he currently works and has already been director and officer of various cultural, sporting, artistic and economic organizations. His involvement in the legal community has also been demonstrated when he was barrister in Mauricie and member of the Board of Directors of the Quebec Bar.

Nassau, Bahamas – Evans & Co.
Evans & Co is now on Star 106.5 FM every Friday morning with "Evans & Co: Legal Notes" and “Legal Brief” on Love 97 FM on Tuesdays, both at 07:30 for listeners on their morning drive. They operate on a roster with all  lawyers participating. Recently, they began presenting topics as a series, such as insolvency, revenue and employment. The show lasts for about 15 minutes and is a conversation between Evans & Co and the DJ explaining the area of law.

New York City, New York, USA - Todtman, Nachamie, Spizz & Johns
Todtman, Nachamie, Spizz & Johns, P.C. was named as one of the top-ranked law firms in the New York metropolitan area by Lexis-Nexis, Martindale-Hubbell®. The award was published in Fortune Magazine and New York Magazine.

Wesley Chen, special counsel to the Firm, was a guest speaker at the 15th Annual Conference of the Association of Trade and Forfaiting in the Americas held in Miami. His speech focused on the legal and business metrics that he developed for structuring transactions with companies in the People’s Republic of China, as well as lessons he learned in structuring international corporate and trade finance transactions over the course of three decades.

San Antonio, Texas, USA - Cox Smith Matthews Incorporated
Eduardo “Eddy” Espinosa and Michael Napoli have joined Cox Smith Matthews Incorporated (“Cox Smith”) as corporate and litigation practices as shareholders. Espinosa and Napoli are currently involved in a State Securities Board receivership in which Espinosa is the appointed receiver and Napoli acts as the receiver’s counsel in connection with related litigation.

San Diego, California, USA - Klinedinst PC
Daily Transcript recognized Klinedinst CEO John D. Klinedinst and Klinedinst CFO Heather L. Rosing as 2012 "Top Attorneys" in San Diego County. Mr. Klinedinst was named Top Attorney in Corporate Litigation, while Ms. Rosing was distinguished as "Top Attorney in Insurance Litigation" for her work in the professional liability arena. All of the honorees were recognized at a special event hosted by the Daily Transcript in July.

Santiago, Chile - Fontaine & Cia Abogados
Fontaine & Cia Partner, Hernan Fontaine, was appointed arbitrator by Chilean Government in the International Centre for Settlement of Investment Disputes (ICSID). ICSID is an autonomous international institution established under the Convention on the Settlement of Investment Disputes between States and Nationals of Other States (the ICSID or the Washington Convention) with over 140 member states. The primary purpose of ICSID is to provide facilities for conciliation and arbitration of international investment disputes. Hernan will serve as arbitrator through 2017.

West Palm Beach, Florida, USA - Broad and Cassel
Broad and Cassel’s West Palm Beach Managing Partner, Patricia Lebow, attended The Wall Street Journal’s Task Force for Women in the Economy, along with fellow attendees Madeleine Albright and Geena Davis. Patricia Lebow, a longtime resident of the Town of Palm Beach, was invited along with 200 influential female CEOs, luminaries and subject-matter experts, to the second annual Wall Street Journal Women in the Economy Conference. Their goal was to create a business-based, data-driven action plan to address an important economic issue: making better use of female talent to promote economic growth and competitiveness in the U.S. and worldwide.

Patricia was also recently appointed to the Board of Directors of the Business Development Board of Palm Beach County as Director at Large. The Business Development Board is a one-stop, countywide resource for information on relocating or expanding a business to Palm Beach County.

RayYin Partner Hao Wang was elected as the deputy director of the Trust Law Committee of Beijing Bar Association. Hao Wang will be responsible for Trust Law Committee's connection and communication with the China Banking Regulatory Commission, China Trustee Association and relevant foreign institutions in her tenure from 2012 to 2015. Based on her trust law expertise and good reputation in the field of trust law in China and abroad, Hao Wang will also promote the introduction and revision of supporting regulations of trust law and strengthen international exchanges, to make the professional trust lawyers play more important roles in the development of China's trust industry.

Darwin, NT, Australia - Ward Keller Lawyers
Leon Loganathan, Managing Partner of Ward Keller, invited Dimitri Stavrouplos, Athens LAW member, to come to Darwin and meet with clients of the firm as well as members of the local Greek community. Ward Keller is aware that many Greeks living in Darwin have legal issues in Greece, mainly concerning land tenure. Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia – Tay & Partners
Tay & Partners has agreed to support MLTIC Competition Law Portal. An agreement to that effect was signed by the parties at Tay & Partners’ office in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia on 25 May 2012. Tay Beng Chai, the managing partner of the firm, signed on behalf of Tay & Partners, while Mr. Rajesh C Muttath, the executive editor, signed on behalf of Muttath KM Services Sdn Bhd (MKMS), the promoters of MLTIC portals including the MLTIC Competition Law portal. The Portal (accessible at www.mycompetitionlaw.info), the first-of-its-kind web portal in the region, provides free access to latest Malaysian competition law developments. It covers all categories of Malaysian competition law information: news, legislation, judgments, cases, rulings, events, books and articles. The Portal provides periodic e-mail alerts and syndication of updates by way of RSS feeds. It allows the users to search its archives for a stipulated period of time.

Cheah Chiew Lan has joined the Intellectual Property and Technology Department as partner. She has experience in dealing with various intellectual property rights such as trademarks; copyright; industrial designs, enforcement of IP rights through the relevant government agencies; and consumer laws, domain name dispute resolution, as well as data protection and privacy issues. Chiew Lan's primary focus is on all aspects of trademark prosecution, searches and advises on registrability and trade mark opposition proceedings. She also advises clients on the protection and maintenance of their IP rights, including IP related agreements, as well as the issues of personal data protection.

O.P. Khaitan & Co., Solicitors & Advocates will be the hosts of the 2013 LAW Asia Pacific Regional Meeting. The dates are to be announced.

Perth Australia - Lavan Legal
Lavan Legal announced the continuing expansion of Lavan Legal through the integration of Maxim Litigation Consultants with Lavan Legal. The Maxim team share common values and a common commitment to Western Australia. They have an outstanding reputation in all aspects of litigation, particularly in the corporate, commercial, mining, resources and energy sectors. The principals and staff of Maxim joined Lavan Legal in the spring.

Sydney, Australia - Koffels, Solicitors & Barristers
Koffels hosted Athens LAW member Dimitri Stavropoulos during his visit to Sydney. Koffels organised conferences with current clients referred by Koffels to Stavropoulos & Co, simplifying the process of bridging the gap on a complicated estate matter involving large tracts of land held in Greece. The chance to introduce Dimitri to their clients, which gave him the opportunity to clarify the issues involved in their claim, was both reassuring to the clients and of assistance to the Greek firm as to the exact nature of the status of the matter and planning the course of action now to be taken.  Koffels also introduced members of their staff with strong connections to the Greek community in Sydney, and involved the staff generally in explanations and comparisons on the topics of migration regulations, and property in particular.

Aberdeen, Scotland - Ledingham Chalmers LLP
Ledingham Chalmers announced a merger with Aberdeen practice Esslemont Cameron & Gauld. On 16 July 2012, a team of eleven joined the Ledingham Chalmers’ Private Client Team in Aberdeen. Esslemont Cameron & Gauld is a long established and well-respected Aberdeen firm focusing on private client services, and the arrival of their team adds further weight to Ledingham Chalmers’ private client activity.

Athens, Greece - Stavropoulos & Co.
Dimitri Stavropoulos, managing partner of Stavropoulos & Co., visited Darwin on Ward Keller's invitation, to meet with clients of  the firm as well as members of the local Greek community. While in Darwin,  Dimitri was interviewed by Darryl Manzie on local radio station 104.1FM about the financial crisis in Greece. He also met with Tony Miaoudas, host of the local Greek radio program and a leader of the Greek community in Darwin.

Dimitri also visited LAW members in Sydney and Melbourne, Australia to connect with LAW members and the Greek communities in both cities.

Cologne, Germany - Schlütter Bornheim Seitz
Christopher Zeller, a trainee in Schlütter Bornheim Seitz’s employment law department, won a Gold medal in field hockey with the German team at the Olympic games in London. In addition, the German field hockey team’s assistant coach, Stefan Kermas, is a member of Schlütter Bornheim Seitz’s corporate law team.

Hamburg, Germany - Esche Schümann Commichau
Esche Schümann Commichau has grown its M&A and Corporate capability by welcoming Stephan Bauer as a new partner. He has worked on national and international M&A transactions and has developed considerable expertise in corporate restructurings and in the field of renewable energies.

Beatrix Arlitt and Michael Kapitza will be joining the firm’s audit practice as partners in October. Beatrix specializes in auditing annual reports and consolidated financial statements of capital-market oriented companies. In addition, she advises on corporate transactions. Michael focuses mainly on auditing annual reports and consolidated financial statements under the German Commercial Code (HGB), IFRS and US GAAP.

Managing Partner Chief Anthony Idigbe (SAN) was appointed a member of Petroleum Revenue Special Task Force. The 17-member committee was “designed to enhance probity and accountability in operations of the Petroleum Industry.”

Howard Kennedy's Chief Executive Mark Dembovsky has been listed in The Lawyer magazine's "Hot 100" in 2012. The Lawyer's "Hot 100" is the magazine's annual report showcasing the profession's 100 most achieving names and is a celebration of talent across the legal market.

OPF Partners announced the appointment of Christel Dumont and Yann Hilpert as partners of the firm. Christel Dumont is a partner in the Civil & Commercial and Real Estate practices. She is also a key practitioner in restructuring & insolvency matters. She assists a domestic and international clientele. Her experience includes drafting and negotiating of all types of agreements. Christel has been working on highly complex international transactions and major local real estate deals. Yann Hilpert is a partner in the Banking & Finance practice. Yann has particular expertise with leveraged finance, securitisations, aircraft and shipping finance, Islamic finance, as well as with financial sector regulatory matters. He mainly advises international financial institutions and private equity houses.

Prague, Czech Republic - Weinhold Legal
Weinhold Legal has won the Acquisition International M&A Award: "Czech Corporate Law Firm of the Year." The firm also has been selected as the "Arbitration & Litigation Law Firm of the Year - Czech Republic" as part of the Lawyer Monthly Legal Awards 2012.

Tallinn, Estonia - LAWIN
LAWIN represented TeliaSonera, Europe’s fifth largest telecom operator, in the acquisition of 7.87 percent of TEO LT shares. TeliaSonera owns the majority stake in TEO LT, the largest telecommunications company in Lithuania. LAWIN currently represents TeliaSonera in its announced ongoing voluntary takeover bid to acquire the remaining shares of TEO LT. The total value of the takeover bid amounts to approx. EUR 76 million. LAWIN’s Partner Dovilė Burgienė says that the complex deals involve both classic acquisition of significant minority blocks of shares from East Capital and other institutional minority shareholders, as well as a subsequent voluntary takeover bid regarding remaining shares.

Thomson Reuters, the world’s leading source of intelligent information for businesses and professionals, has recently published its M&A Legal Review for 2011, ranking LAWIN as the top legal adviser for Mergers & Acquisitions in the Baltics.
