Zuber Lawler & Del Duca LLP in Los Angeles, California, USA became the latest member of LAW in December 2017. The firm has 40 lawyers and has clients all over the world. Knox Law shareholder Guy Fustine has registered (and thus will represent) seven retired National Football League (NFL) players for the In re: National Football League Players’ Concussion Injury Litigation class action settlement, which became final and effective on January 7, 2017 (No. 2:12-md-02323 (E.D. Pa.). Most of the retired players are from the Pittsburgh Steelers. The registration deadline for receiving benefits from the league’s $1 billion settlement fund was August 7, 2017. The settlement is estimated to be the largest legal settlement in sports history. Guy Fustine is a certified contract advisor for the NFL Players Association and a licensed athlete agent in Pennsylvania, North Carolina and Georgia.
MDP & Partners successfully represented M/s. Cosme Bio-Tech Private Limited (‘Company’) before National Company Law Tribunal, Mumbai (‘NCLT’) in challenging the striking off order passed by the ROC, Goa, Daman & Diu. The NCLT upon considering the facts that the Company is actively engaged in the business and has substantial turnover and business activities, by Order dated 17th October has allowed the Company Petition filed by Company and has directed ROC to restore the name of the Company to the Register of Companies maintained by ROC, Goa, Daman & Diu. Cosme Bio-Tech Private Limited, was represented by Managing Partner, Nishit Dhruva and Associate Chirag Bhavsar.
Tarter Krinsky & Drogin LLP has been particularly active in advising the development community behind the latest hotel, residential, retail and arts projects in cutting-edge Brooklyn neighborhoods, including Williamsburg, Bushwick and Greenpoint, as well as with the pioneering Greenway Initiative to connect the borough’s neighborhood parks and gardens.
Among the many notable projects of TKD’s Construction practice, two were recently highlighted in The New York Times for their cultural significance.
TKD represented the joint venture behind the multi-million dollar acquisition and development of the Brooklyn Mirage in East Williamsburg. The entertainment complex encompasses a 6,000-person, 80,000-square-foot site that includes indoor and year-round facilities. In addition to hosting the world’s top DJs, the Mirage will also host movie screenings, fashion shows and art events. Led by Construction chair David Pfeffer, the TKD team successfully solved various license and permit issues while satisfying the needs of the project’s construction lenders. The New York Times highlighted the club’s opening in a feature article.
TKD also continues to represent Nitehawk Cinemas with its New York expansion. Nitehawk is the foremost innovator in New York that introduced dine-in cinemas with alcohol service and expanded film-related programming, similar to the Curzon Cinemas in the UK. TKD has performed a wide-range of work for the client over the last five years, starting notably by persuading the State of New York to change its liquor regulations to allow Nitehawk to sell alcoholic beverages to be consumed during film screenings. TKD provided all of the business and legal services related to the acquisition, financing and ongoing construction and development of Nitehawk’s new Pavilion Theatre on Prospect Park, a multi-million dollar project in Brooklyn’s booming Park Slope neighborhood. Construction practice chair David Pfeffer is leading this matter.

Bradly Torgan has joined the Natural Resources Group. With 20 years of environmental law experience in California and North Carolina, he did post-graduate work at the University of Sydney, followed by relocation to Darwin. Brad is one of less than 40 lawyers licensed in California and Australia. He also has active bar memberships California and the Northern Territory.
Kevin Kadirgamar has been awarded the Young Australian of the Year for the Northern Territory for his outstanding pro-bono work on high profile refugee migration cases. A former and current board member of many youth justice and human rights groups, Kevin provides regular free migration advice and is the President of the Multicultural Council of the Northern Territory.
The Northern Territory Legal Aid Commission (NTLAC) has announced Tessa Czislowski as Commissioner and Board Member. The appointment reflects Tessa’s deep knowledge and understanding of family law and is public recognition of her standing within the community and amongst other family law practitioners in the Northern Territory.
Three young professional staff at Ward Keller were recently elected by peer vote as members of the management committee of the Northern Territory Young Lawyers Association (NTYL). Of the three, Sarah Dowd (Lawyer) was elected as President. NTYL play a key role in advocating, caring for and representing young practitioners in the Northern Territory amongst professional bodies.

Malav Virani and Pranav N Jain have joined MDP as partners. Virani specialises in real estate, banking and finance, and project finance sectors. Jain’s key practice areas include mergers and acquisitions, private equity and venture capital deals. Ashok Kumar Mishra has also joined as a senior partner and now heads the firm’s banking practice.
MDP has also opened a second Mumbai office in addition to its older office in the city, in the Bandra Kurla Complex and now has 35 lawyers including six partners.

Wildgen received a reward at the HR One Gala, which emphasized the digital transformation of the HR manager profession. The ceremony rewarded the best local initiatives and best practices. Represented by Jackye Elombo, Partner, Wildgen and its service offering "Pragmatic Labor Law" won the 2017 "Best Social and Legal Partner" award. The "Pragmatic Labor Law" offering reinvents support for human resources management and includes innovative solutions such as chatrooms, legal hotlines, coaching sessions with lawyers or solutions crisis management.

Alan discussed some of the innovative cost-saving strategies implemented by TKD, such as maximizing office space; outsourcing certain functions, including the CFO or CTO roles; implementing new accounting technology that provides more precise reporting of expenditures; utilizing technology more effectively by utilizing the cloud and a continuous review of basic operating costs, such as heat and electricity expenditures and reducing those where it makes sense.

Mark Rosenberg, TKD Reputation Management practice co-chair and Intellectual Property partner, recently authored an article for Modern Aesthetics magazine titled, "Handling Negative Reviews in the Internet Age." In the article, Mark explores how physicians can protect themselves against negative reviews posted to Internet sites such as Healthgrades, Vitals or Yelp, noting that these reviews "can damage a doctor's reputation and can have significant ramifications for his or her practice."

Heather Rosing has been elected the first President of the California Lawyers Association (CLA), the nation’s second-largest professional association for attorneys. In October of 2017, Governor Jerry Brown signed SB 36 into law, effectively separating some of the professional promotion activities of the State Bar of California into CLA, a private non-profit entity. Effective January 1, 2018, San Francisco-based CLA is the new home of the Sections of the State Bar of California, as well as the California Young Lawyers Association (CYLA). From day one, CLA has over 64,000 members, ranking it in size second only to the American Bar Association. When factoring in the number of CYLA members, that membership number swells to over 100,000 California attorneys.

Erika Hartliep was named a Ninth Circuit Lawyer Representative for the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Washington. Her term will run from November 1, 2017 until October 31, 2020. In her role as Lawyer Representative, Erika will serve as a member of the District’s Attorney Advisory Committee, which acts as a conduit between the bench and the bar in order to foster open communication between judges and attorneys.
The American College of Trust and Estate Counsel (ACTEC) has named Karolyn Hicks a Fellow in its Fall entry class for 2017. ACTEC is an organization of peer-elected lawyers and law professors who are skilled and experienced in the field of trusts and estates. She is the fifth Stokes Lawrence attorney to receive this distinction. To qualify for membership, a lawyer must have at least 10 years' experience in the active practice of probate and trust law or estate planning. Lawyers and law professors are elected to be Fellows based on their outstanding reputation, exceptional skill, and substantial contributions to the field by lecturing, writing, teaching, and participating in bar leadership or legislative activities.
