Tay & Partners’ aviation dispute team led by partner Soo Chuan Cheah has successfully arrested and grounded a Boeing 777 aircraft operated by Pakistan International Airlines at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport on 29 May 2023. This aircraft arrest was executed by Tay & Partners upon instruction of the firm’s client, an aviation leasing company based in Ireland, in the exercise of default remedies as a lessor under the Cape Town Convention.

This is the second time that the same Boeing 777 aircraft operated by the national flag carrier of Pakistan has been seized in Malaysia. Tay & Partners was involved in the last successful aircraft arrest two and a half years ago in January 2021, which was then the first such aircraft arrest involving a foreign airline ever reported in Malaysia.

News of this high-profile case broke out across global media soon after the latest aircraft arrest. This success unmistakably demonstrates Tay & Partners’ strengths and core competency to manage contentious aviation disputes on behalf of the firm’s clients.
