Tarter Krinsky & Drogin, a leading national mid-sized law firm with 30 practice groups and offices across five states, celebrates its 25th anniversary in the summer of 2026. We had the opportunity to speak with the firm’s founders, Alan Tarter, Laurent Drogin, and Andrew Krinsky, about the firm’s journey, its approach to growth and innovation, and the value of its 11-year membership in Lawyers Associated Worldwide (LAW).

Founded in Midtown Manhattan in July 2001, Tarter Krinsky & Drogin has spent the past quarter-century building a firm grounded in its commitment to its people, innovation, and client service. That approach has fueled steady growth, with the firm now comprising approximately 150 attorneys across offices in New York, New Jersey, California, Florida, and Texas.
The firm also serves a robust international client base, with experience spanning Italian, German, French, Canadian, Turkish, Chinese, Indian, and Benelux markets. Its longstanding engagement with LAW has further strengthened its ability to support clients with cross-border legal and business needs.
To mark this milestone, we asked the founders to reflect on the forces shaping the legal industry, the firm’s experience as a LAW member, and the lessons they have learned over 25 years of building a successful independent law firm.
Given the rapid technological shifts, talent market dynamics, and changing client expectations, if managing partners at independent firms could focus on only one strategic priority over the next 12 to 24 months, what should it be and why?
According to Alan Tarter, managing partner of Tarter Krinsky & Drogin, over the next 12 to 24 months, the most important strategic priority for independent firms is preparing to fully embrace AI. The firm is at the beginning of a fundamental shift that will transform nearly every aspect of the legal profession, from how work is performed to how clients expect to receive services. That’s why Tarter Krinsky & Drogin made the decision to hire a Director of AI to lead change management efforts, evaluate emerging technologies, and help develop practical applications for the firm. AI presents a tremendous opportunity to deliver greater value to clients, improve efficiency, retain and attract talent, and potentially reduce costs, but realizing those benefits requires more than simply adopting new technology. Firms need to invest in the right tools, train their people to use them effectively, and build a culture that embraces change. Ultimately, it will be training and execution—not just technology itself—that separates the firms that lead from those that struggle to keep pace.
Tarter Krinsky & Drogin has been an active LAW member for 11 years. How has your engagement in the network supported your growth and cross-border capabilities, and what advice would you give member firms on how to maximize the return on their LAW membership?
Our involvement with Lawyers Associated Worldwide has expanded both our global reach and our ability to serve clients with cross-border legal needs. As part of a network of more than 100 independent law firms across more than 50 countries, we have access to trusted local counsel around the world while also providing fellow LAW members with the benefit of our own multidisciplinary capabilities in the U.S.
Notably, in 2025, Tarter Krinsky & Drogin achieved a significant victory under the Hague Convention on the Civil Aspects of International Child Abduction in a matter led by Andrew Krinsky, founding partner and Chair of the firm’s Litigation Department, that was referred to the firm through the LAW network. Tarter Krinsky & Drogin successfully represented a father seeking the return of his five-year-old son to Portugal after the child was wrongfully removed to the United States by his mother. The case, tried in federal court in the Eastern District of New York, involved complex issues of habitual residence, consent, and international relocation.
Over the years, the firm has established itself within the network as a valuable bridge between the U.S. and international markets, helping clients navigate the legal and business issues that arise when operating across borders.
“To get the most from a LAW membership, firms should make a point of being active—participate in meetings, practice groups, and events, build relationships with fellow members, and look for opportunities to both give and receive referrals. It is equally important to track your LAW referral pipeline so you understand where opportunities are developing and can build on those relationships over time.“
Andrew Krinsky, Founding Partner and Chair of the firm’s Litigation Department
Reflecting on Tarter Krinsky & Drogin’s 25-year growth story, what foundational advice would you offer small to medium-sized firms looking to achieve sustainable growth today?
Sustainable growth doesn’t happen by accident—it starts with having a clear vision and the discipline to stay focused on it as your firm evolves, according to Laurent Drogin, founding partner and Chair of Tarter Krinsky & Drogin’s Labor and Employment practice. At the same time, you have to be willing to invest ahead of the curve, whether that means bringing on talented people, expanding your space, or building the resources that will support future growth rather than simply meeting today’s demands. The firm has also found tremendous value in developing its own talent by training and promoting from within, which strengthens institutional knowledge and reinforces the culture that defines who we are. As you grow, protecting that culture is just as important as expanding your capabilities, so hiring people who share your values is essential. And no matter how large or sophisticated your firm becomes, never lose sight of the relationships that built your practice in the first place. Strong client relationships create trust, lead to new opportunities, and often become the foundation for your next stage of growth.
